Triathlete racing to the world 2016
Hi, I'm Tonie Yip from Hong Kong as an amateur triathlete now but will be upgraded to the professional level as well as my racing experience. Spread out here! Recently, I am qualified as a member of the age group triathlete by my affiliated triathlon club!! Then, I have been selected to represent the team in Hong Kong, at any ITU or ASTC Triathlon and Ironman races in 2016.
My goal is simple. I just want to become an elite triathlete as well as world class level. I would be extremely grateful for any financial assistance to help me travel and complete the race and seize an opportunity to be qualified by Hong Kong Regional Triathlon Squad.
I have competed in the ASTC Triathlon Asian Cup in Hong Kong 2015 in October 2015 and go ahead to racing around the world in 2016, as dreaming to win a gold, silver or bronze in swim, bike and run.
Why support me? Here is my story...
My road of sport began when I was 8 years old. I started swim training at an independent team at a swimming club but I got failed to be qualified by Hong Kong Regional Swimming Squad due to my educational problems. But I have won some medals at some local district swimming competitions at all until now. After graduate from the university in 2007, I suffered mental problem from my work. By that time, I start my triathlon road and began the first training by competing my first Auqathlon race (500m swim, 5k run) and get the best result! (500m swim in 6:30 mins, 5k run in 21:00 mins) . To improve my triathlon skills and get useful assistance, I join "Energetic Triathlon Shatin" Club and achieve regular training at all.
Eventually, one thing I got pleasent that I met the former Hong Kong elite triathlete called Lee Chi Wo, Daniel (李致和) at the local Aquathlon race in July 2010. Daniel told me that the lifetime for triathlon was different from other sports. As I was qualified as a Regional affiliated club athlete, no matter thing will be suffered from any risks! My first road bike for racing I purchased after 3 years since I was take my first salary. Even though I have been successful with it, but unfortunately was destroyed during 2014 Hong Kong ASTC Triathlon Asian Cup and I got heavy injured. Then I got lost the insufficient result from the disqualification! I am in need of a more assistance for purchase with new triathlon bike. Along with purchasing a new bike comes a required one fit to make sure I am as efficient as possible racing!!
Racing training: Early morning or night swims 2 times per week, running 4-5 days/wek, biking 1 day/week and topped off with strength and conditioning seasons. I also had some big life changes, an expected career move resulted in some heavy expenses including a change in accommodation and transport.
Race experience:
2005 Hong Kong Aquathlon Race 2
2006 Hong Kong Aquathlon Race 2,3
2007 Hong Kong Aquathlon Race3,4
2008 Hong Kong Aquathlon Race 1,2

"An athlete cannot run with money in his pockets." - Emil Zatopek, but they sure do need it to eat, train and travel. Unfortunately, I am an sad triathlete due to lack of good assistance with expenditure for basic needs. That's why I almost need your kindly contributions and cares to enrich my meaningful athletic life! I want to win more regional, national, Asia and international titles with exceeded experience and develop into a top class international athlete. This is my dream and with the support of individuals and organizations like yours, I can try and I can succeed.
Triathlon is a demanding sport both in terms of time and financial commitments. Unfortunately in Hong Kong there are just little or no government grants or commercial sponsorships for our sport. An asapiring athlete has very little assistance with expenditure on regular training, coaching, overseas camps, equipment, overseas travel, accommodation and race event enrollment costs.
For example according to my coach, a typical Asian race will involve the following expenses:
Race entry cost: $100
Elite / pro license cost: $400 per year
Return flights to any from my destination for me (US$200+) my bike (US$100) and 1 piece of luggage ($50). ~ $350
Acommodation for at least 2 nights at my race destination ~ $70 per night
Food, nutrition and costs involved in getting prepped and ready for the race ~$70
Expenses for European race:
Race entry cost: $150
Elite / pro license cost: $500 per year
Return flights to any from my destination for me ($200=) my bike ($100) and I piece of luggage ($50). ~ $350
Accommodation for at least 2 nights at my race destination: $70 per night
Food, nutrition and costs involved in getting prepped and ready for the race: $70
Ironman Taiwan 2016 Race
Race entry cost: $550
Flight: $1500 with all checked bags and bike
Accommodation for 7 days ina basic apartment: $500
I have planned to compete in following races or events in 2016:
2016 Hatsukaichi ASTA Triathlon Asian CHampionships (April 2016)
Hong Kong Festival of Sport Sprint Triathlon 2016 (May 2016)
2016 New Taipei City ASTC Triathlon Asian Championships (June 2016)
2016 Hong Kong ASTC Sprint Triathlon Asian Cup (October 2016)
2016 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final Chicago (Coming Soon)
IRONMAN Taiwan 2016 - Penghu Island, Taiwan (October 2, 2016)
IRONMAN Malaysia - Langkawi, Malaysia (Coming Soon)
New World International Triathlon 2016 (November 2016)
To complete all these races or events, an endurance power is very important for me as a serious perfoemance. Therefore, I need to spend for the opportunity to represent Hong Kong. Any contributions from you would be so gratefully received and help me to go ahead for any international events!!
I would like to raise up to$25,000 to assist with the next 2 years of racing, which will help me compete internationally and go on the raid progession I made. I will also continue my reqular Aquathlon, Duathlon, short course swim and open water swim races, too.
This is a huge dream for me to compete on a world class level. I ask that you please support me by donating and sharing this campaign with your friends like you! Your contribution will go directly to my training budget and help defray the cost of my training! I will keep everyone updated on the progress and I hope to continue to make all of you proud!!

Road to Kona-Ironman World Championship
My name is Tamara Maxantova, I am a 34 year old triathlete from the Czech Republic. I have been living, training and racing in Ireland for over 5 years now. I race domestically as well as internationally. To fund this, I have two part time jobs (I am a Baker for the Happy Pear, Greystones and I am also a Nanny), which I try to fit in around my long training hours, similar to those of a full time athlete. I do this because I am determined to be successful and competitive in the world of triathlon. I want to compete at the World Championships in Kona, Hawaii! I love this sport and I am giving my all to train and compete at my best.
Finding Triathlon
My road to Kona started 7 years ago when I went to “Big Island” to support my friend who was racing the World Championship. I was fascinated by the atmosphere, people cheering in every corner, loud music, lean triathletes, determined athletes with all kinds of disabilities who strived to finish no matter what. That experience had a huge impact on me. It was so inspirational. Upon leaving, I made a promise to myself, that I would come here again one day and compete in this fascinating race as an athlete.
I started from scratch. Beginning as a baby triathlete and working my way up to sprint distance and progressing on to Olympic and Middle Distances (70.3) before finally completing an Ironman (IM). I raced my 1st IM in Austria in 2011. My ambitions got even stronger when I finished in a time of 11h 1 min. I qualified for the 70.3 World Championship that year too. It was held in Las Vegas and I really wanted to go but had I to pull out… due to the financial cost.
Road to Kona
Having gotten so far and being denied the opportunity, I decided to take my training to a higher level. In October of 2012, I joined the Base2Race (B2R) Academy. My main focus in 2013 was clearly on 70.3 races to build a stronger foundation for 2014. Under the daily coaching of Eanna McGrath, I won the Humbert Challenge, the Blacksod Challenge and the Athy Double Olympic race. I also came 4th in the Irish National Championships and 2nd in the Czech National Championships.
I started the 2014 season with one main focus on my mind – to race well in the Austria IM and qualify for the World Championship in Hawaii. I trained hard for 8 months, starting in mid October 2013. The training involved many hours of cycling in the Wicklow Mountains, regardless of what the weather conditions were like. Early morning swims 3-4 times per week , running 4-5 days/week and topped off with strength and conditioning sessions. I also had some big life changes, an unexpected career move resulted in some heavy expenses including a change in accommodation and transport.
Despite these setbacks, I kept my goal in mind and in July of this year, I completed the race in a time of 9h 50minutes and achieved the victory in my age group, which grants me a qualification slot for Kona! Yes! Once again I have qualified for the World Championships but once again, my participation is in doubt, for financial reasons. Despite working two jobs and training full time, I am not able to afford the cost of travelling to this amazing race to show the world just what I can do.
Breaking Down Costs
The fund raised through this project would go towards the following expenses:
- Flight: €1500 with all checked bags and bike
- Accommodation for 13 days in a basic apartment: €900
- Registration Fee: €600
I would also be able to cut out a small amount of long work hours I currently do to be able to train and race to my full potential.
Through this project I am inviting you to be part of my dream to help me with financing my road to Kona this year on October 11th. Thank you for your support.
